Durham, Halton not going back to Stage 2 yet

Premier Doug Ford’s office will not announce Monday that Durham and Halton will be sent back to a modified Stage 2.

Ford had commented Friday they would be deciding on the fate of the two regions over the weekend.

Now the province isn’t ready to scale the two areas back, but will reportedly continue to look at the data.

Durham and Halton are the only areas of the GTA that weren’t sent back to a modified Stage 2.

Toronto and Peel started Stage 2 October 9 and York moved into modified Stage 2 October 19.

Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter doesn’t believe the numbers in Durham are similar to the trends seen in Toronto, Peel and York when they were moved back and doesn’t believe the region is there yet.

Ford, Health Minister Christine Elliott and Finance Minister and Ajax MPP Rod Phillips are set to speak at 1 p.m. Monday.

Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter doesn’t think Durham should be sent back to Stage 2

    PLEASE!! Stage 2 for everyone’s health. We cheer all health workers, police, fire and ambulance professionals doing their jobs to protect us, why not protect them?? No brainer people!!

  2. Jackie says:

    I couldn’t agree more let’s protect those that matter and the essential works we can’t live without.

  3. Gary says:

    Speaking of no brains…. Jeezus. You do realize that we simply cannot afford this, right ? Stop thinking like a child.

  4. Lynzee LeRoy says:

    Totally agree with you, Robin. Ajax with North of 80 cases alone isn’t enough??

  5. Diane says:

    Make people stay in their own communities start making people show residence identification before being allowed into stores ect.
    People from stage 2 areas are swamping areas in stage 3

  6. Sad says:

    Agree with you Robin. Anyone who thinks otherwise should seriously should give your head a shake. I do agree the economy is crumbling, but i choose LIFE. We have never got into a recession we didnt get out of. Period

  7. Fed the F* up!!! says:

    Robin, Jackie, Lynzee… you all realize that just because you’re “allowed” as a democratic society to use a service or visit an establishment, you are not being told you must. If for your personal situation you feel that visiting these places poses a risk to yourself or someone important to you, you can choose to abstain. This is what is meant by sacrifice! Not that hundreds of thousands of adults and children are left at risk of poverty and losing their entire livelihood due to useless and ineffective shutdowns of the “small business” but of course never to the monopolies and giant box stores or grocers. Small business owners spent money they didn’t have, (and that the government promised to help with but as yet has to do so), to ensure the safety of their staff and patrons… all the while we have our elected politicians NOT practicing what they preach to us… no masks in crowds, at airports, at weddings or inviting family to their homes while we’ve gone nearly a year from seeing our family. Come on people!!! I’m so sick of US BEING BALMED FOR THE GOVERNMENTS FAILINGS by people like you citizens as well as our officials.

  8. Stop panicking says:

    Stop looking at just the case numbers. Look at the whole picture. 4 of the 5 people in my house are without or losing their job. Covid wont kill us, starvation will. Think with your brains people.

  9. Mitch says:

    Let’s not keep destroying people’s lives over this virus… let’s get on with living… these shut downs are causing more harm than the virus itself.

  10. Jrtt says:

    SAD this isn’t going to just lead to a recession but a major depression the likes of which nobody has seen. We are in such a big hole we will never get out. What good is life when you can’t own anything and are a slave?

  11. G Hiker says:

    This “working from home” needs to be vetted properly.

    Civil servants are continuing to enjoy obscene pay cheques, full benefits and pension while doing minimal to absolutely nothing!

    What the hell is going on? Enjoying a wonderful stay at home covid-vacation is horrible abuse of tax payer money.

  12. Sad says:

    @Jrrt no comment. Stay safe

  13. Sad says:

    @ G Hiker,
    Although your comment was certainly not directed at me. However id like to let you know that i’m one of these civil servants who works from home and certainly am not enjoying any vacation. Since COVID my work load has actually trippled and i do not get paid for the extra hours i have to put in. Be mindful of your thought process. Im grateful for remote work as, if i had to go to an office during this time, id be arriving home at 9&10pm. No thnks

  14. Bob's Your Uncle says:

    God Dam their are some really stupid people with stupid a.s comments on this story that need a serious good kick in the a.s to get there brains back in their heads.

    (Gary, Fed the F* up!!!, Stop panicking, Mitch, Jrtt) yes this is directed at you, figured I better point that out cause you jokers don’t have a brain between ya.

    If ducking people had listened to the health experts and kept wearing the masks when they couldn’t social distance, stayed 6ft apart, washed their hands, no large gatherings in the first place. Maybe we would be in stage 4 by now and not worrying about being locked down again because of you selfish protesting stupid buggers.

    I mean really…. if all the idiot protesters would have put in the same effort into following those steps and used what little pea brains they have, we might be in better shape by now. If they had have maybe we could have gotten back to a bit of normal in our lives until there is a vaccine available.

    Yes another shutdown will not be good for small business, the economy and people’s well being and such but in order to avoid that people need to start to ducking listen

    So until there is a vaccine, all “you people” complaining and protesting about being locked down again and so on and on and on…. do all of us people with a brain a favor and start listening and just shut the Duck up.

    Were all fed up and tired of this crap!

  15. Stop panicking says:

    I am not a protester. I read and use logic. I wear masks, social distance and do all the public health recommendations. I also doubt there will ever be an accurate vaccine for you to wait for so maybe you should stop waiting for a miracle. If you can afford to lockdown till there is a cure, go for it but I like the majority of people can’t so maybe it’s time for you to “shut the duck up”. Btw I think your brain needs a reboot.

  16. Smh says:

    @Bob’s Your Uncle.
    Agreed! At this point it will be survival of the fittest. We both know it will not be the complainers.

  17. No crying wolf people... says:

    Look, Halton and Durham are small regions in comparison to the other regions in the GTHA. Stop crying about wanting Durham and Halton to be put back into stage 2. Look at the numbers closely and you see that there is no need to sound the alarm.
    Instead of waisting time crying, they should use all that wasted effort into helping protect our communities

  18. Eyes Open says:

    Bob, you should realize that our behaviour has very little to do with the numbers. If in June and July they were calling for a second wave in September, obviously there’s no connection with what people do, and everything to do with people control and the onset of regular cold and flu season.

  19. Neil Findlay says:

    There are no outbreaks in restaurants or gyms. Why would we close ? Gyms and restaurants are cleaner then your home . I cannot afford another shut down. We should be targeting and shutting down these anti mask/vaccine rallies. They obviously dont care about people’s livelihoods!

  20. Bob's Your Uncle says:

    @Stop panicking…. At least I have one.

    Never said I could afford a lockdown or that I am waiting for this miracle cure. They probably have a vaccine already their just waiting till it gets rid of all the stupid people like you. So maybe it’s time for you to “shut the duck up” like I said. Btw I also think your brain needs a complete overhaul… oh wait that would mean that you have one, sorry my bad.

  21. Stop panicking says:

    @bob
    I beg to differ.
    You realize a vaccine will need to given more frequently than the flu vaccine and with mutations as there already have been might not even be effective. People like you who think everything is black and white need to go back to school, grow up and actually learn to use their brain. There is a way to live with Covid without a complete shutdown. You are actually a bully and mean so no I will never shut up, as my opinion counts as does yours but at least I give mine civilly.

  22. Bob's Your Uncle says:

    @Stop panicking….. So sorry snowflake, I see everything in colour and no need to go back to school as I am way smarter than you my foolish troll. I am sure the health experts know that there are mutations and will be prepared, so lets leave that to the experts cause you are certainly not.

Thanks!
