NHL PLAYOFFSA Power-play goal in overtime gave San Jose a 2-1 win over LA, to trim the Kings’ lead in the Western Conference final to 2-1, Saturday. Elsewhere, the Detroit Red Wings evened their series with Chicago, and gained home ice advantage, with a 4-1 win over the Blackhawks. C.H.L. MEMORIAL CUPCentre Nathan MacKinnon scored three times while the Halifax Mooseheads exploded for five straight goals in the second period, in a 7-4 win over the Portland Winterhawks at the Memorial Cup on Saturday night. AHL PLAYOFFSThe Toronto Marlies staved off post-season elimination Saturday night with a 4-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins in Game 5 of the American Hockey League Western Conference semifinal. The Griffins still lead the series 3-2, but Toronto will host Game 6 on Tuesday, and if necessary, Game 7 on Wednesday. MLBIt was another disappointing game for the Jays on Saturday afternoon. Toronto lost for the ninth straight time at Yankee Stadium, and sixth time this season, dropping a 7-2 decision to New York. The last-place Blue Jays began the series eight-games back of the AL East leaders, and are now 10 back of the Yankees. NBA PLAYOFFSThe Indiana Pacers went on a late 11-2 run and beat the New York Knicks 106-99, to advance to the NBA Eastern Conference final. The Pacers won the series in six games, and go on to face the Miami Heat. That series begins Wednesday in Miami. The Western Conference final starts Sunday, with the Memphis Grizzlies at San Antonio. |
