Costco is recalling some chocolate chip cookies, over fears there may be metal pieces in them. The Kirkland Signature Brand Cocholate Lover’s and Chocolate Chunk cookie sold in packages of 24 may be affected. They were sold between July 26th and August 7th.
HOUSE FIRE IN PICKERING

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a house fire in Pickering on Tuesday. Officials with Pickering Fire Services say the call came in just after noon, regarding a fire at a townhouse complex at 925 Bayly Street. 4 trucks were at the scene and the blaze was put out within about an hour. No injuries were reported and officials are working on an estimate of the damage. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
ONLINE GAMBLING COMING TO ONTARIO

Ontario is going to cash in on internet gambling. Finance Minister Dwight Duncan says the province will offer online gambling in 2012. Government officials say that within 5 years the province could rake in about $100-million a year from online gambling. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation estimates that Canadians spend nearly $1-billion a year at unregulated gambling sites. Ontario’s cash-strapped government is eager to find new revenue streams to eliminate its massive deficit and fund expensive promises ahead of the 2011 election. British Columbia recently launched its online betting operations, and Quebec is expected to follow suit.
BOY IN HOSPITAL AFTER BEING PULLED FROM LAKE NEAR LINDSAY

A three year old boy is in hospital after being found face down in a lake near Lindsay. Police say the boy was pulled from Balsam Lake Monday. The boy was revived by bystanders before emergency crews got there.
FATAL ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 403

Westbound lanes of Highway 403 in Mississauga the site of a fatal accident early Tuesday. Provincial police say a driver lost control of a vehicle near Mavis Road at about 1:15 am while changing lanes and striking a guard rail on the right side of the highway. The vehicle rolled into a ditch and burst into flames. Police say the driver was believed to be speeding.
NO DELAYS AT UNION

There were no disruptions to rail service at Union Station on Tuesday. A tentative contract agreement was reached between Toronto Terminals Railway and the union representing workers, preventing a strike. The workers provide construction, operations and maintenance services.
G20 SUSPECT COURT APPEARANCE

A court appearance on Tuesday for the 21 year old woman accused of instigating G20 violence. Kelly Pflug-Back surrendered to police on July 21st, shortly after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She’s charged with 6 counts of mischief over $5,000 in relation to damage caused during the June G20 protests. A bail hearing was delayed from July 27th, after her lawyer showed up late and requested the delay.
TORONTO POLICE ASK PARENTS ABOUT KIDS WEB USAGE

Toronto Police are hoping an online survey can shed some light on how much parents know about what their kids are doing online. The survey asks whether your children use social networking sites, if that time online is monitored and whether you’ve talked to your kids about internet safety. AIR SAFETY QUESTIONS RAISED

Concerns over air safety and proper screening are being addressed Tuesday in the Hous of Commons Public Saftey Committee. Some MP’s are concerned and calling for formal hearings. The growing fears come after a video was posted to youtube of 2 women boarding an Air Canada flight. Neither woman was asked to remove their vail to ensure their faces match their passport photos.
IGNATIEFF CALLS FOR STIMULUS SPENDING FLEXABILITY

The leader of the opposition says the Harper government should be more flexable with its stimulus spending decisions. The parlimentary budget officer released a report saying delays in projects could cause a half billion dollars worth of funding could laps when stimulus spending is cut off next spring. Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff says more stimulus dollars may be needed after 2011, in order to finish projects.
BACK TO SCHOOL A STRESSFUL TIME FOR SOME KIDS

POWER PLEDGE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE

Almost 90 municipalities, representing 82 per cent of Ontario’s population have agreed to compete in the second annual province-wide Power Pledge Community Challenge. The event runs Wednesday, and team leader Tim Taylor says the initiative is aimed at raising the importance of energy conservation. Taylor says last year, Kingston won the competition by reducing its consumption on challenge day by 7.8 per cent. For more information click here.
