Gas prices expected to jump 2.3 cents a litre in the GTA overnight

In a move that will come as no surprise to many motorists, the price at the pump is going up in advance of the long-weekend. According to TomorrowsGasPriceToday.com, prices will be going up by 2.3 cents a litre overnight. Gas guru Dan McTeague, the increase is no coincidence and is a simple case of profit taking. McTeague also warns residents to brace for even higher prices over the coming days. The average price of gas in the GTA will increase to 127.6 cents a litre, but also says lower prices can still be found in parts of Durham Region.
Woman suffers life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Toronto

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Toronto. Police say around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, a woman had to be rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck in the Yonge and Glengrove area. The cause of the collision is still being determined and there’s no word yet on potential charges against the driver.
Female pedestrian hit and killed by train in Toronto

The investigation is continuing for Toronto police after a female pedestrian was hit and killed by a train. Officials say the victim was struck in the Yonge and Summerhill area around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night. The cause of the incident is still being determined and witnesses are being sought. There is still no word on the name or age of the victim.
65 year-old Peterborough man charged in child porn investigation

A 65 year-old Peterborough man has been charged with child porn offences. Police in Peterborough and Toronto teamed up for the investigation and allege James Alex Brunton made covert videos inside locker rooms. Brunton faces over 60 charges including possessing, accessing and distributing child pornography, sexual exploitation, extortion and forcible confinement. According to police, the accused was in trusted positions with numerous minor hockey and lacrosse organizations including the Lakefield Chiefs, Junior C Lakers and the AAA minor Peterborough Petes.
Hamilton police confirm the remains of 32 year-old Tim Bosma have been found

The worst fears have been confirmed in the search for a Hamilton-area man who had been missing for eight days. Hamilton police Chief Glenn De Caire announced Tuesday morning that the burned remains of 32 year-old Tim Bosma have been found. Bosma disappeared last Monday after going on a test drive with two men in his black Dodge Ram pickup truck, which he had posted for sale online. Investigators have arrested one man so far in the case, 27 year-old Dellen Millard of Toronto. Millard will appear in court on Wednesday and according to his lawyer, will plead not guilty to forcible confinement and theft over $5,000. Police are still seeking a second man, who has not been identified.
Co-founder of the Toronto Sun, Peter Worthington dies at the age of 86

One of Canada’s best-known journalists has died. Peter Worthington died around midnight in hospital surrounded by family. He was 86 years-old. Worthington is best known for being the founding editor of the Toronto Sun in 1971. Worthington was admitted to Toronto General Hospital last Thursday and diagnosed with a serious staph infection that compromised his heart, kidneys and other organs. The Sun reports Worthington passed away surrounded by his wife and family, including his grandchildren.
Police locate the pickup truck belonging to Tim Bosma

A possible break in the case of a missing 32 year-old Hamilton-area man. Police have located the pickup truck belonging to Tim Bosma just north of Toronto. Bosma hasn’t been seen or heard from since last Monday when he took two men for a test drive while trying to sell the vehicle. Reports say it was found Sunday outside the home of Dellen Millard’s mother. The 27 year-old Millard has been charged in relation with Bosma’s disappearance. Police are still looking for Bosma, and the second suspect in the case.
Coroner’s inquest into 2011 death of Toronto man in Grenada set to begin

The death of Oscar Bartholomew will once again be under the microscope in Grenada. The 39 year-old Toronto man died in 2011 after being allegedly beaten into a coma by five police officers on the Caribbean island. Back in March, a judge quashed manslaughter charges against the officers and ruled a coroner’s inquest must be held before a criminal case can proceed. The inquest begins on Monday.
Toronto police looking for witnesses after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a streetcar

Investigators are still looking for answers in the death of a 60 year-old man who was hit by a streetcar. Toronto police say early Sunday morning, the victim stepped off an eastbound street car and then stumbled and fell onto the road where he was struck by another streetcar. The name of the man has not been released. Anyone who witnessed the accident is being asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
Police release suspect descriptions following shooting at Yorkdale mall

Toronto Police have released the description of suspects wanted after a shooting at Yorkdale mall on Saturday. Just after midnight, officers got a call that shots had been fired near Joey restaurant. Bullets flew through the window of restaurant, and one man was struck. He was taken to hospital with non−life−threatening injuries, and remains in stable condition. The suspects were last seen eastbound on Yorkdale Service Road towards Allen Road, in a current−model silver Honda CRV. Police are looking for two men. The first one is 5’10″to 6′, medium build, wearing a jacket with the top half black and the bottom halfred and black pants. 17th annual Sporting Life 10k underway in Toronto; road closures in effect

The streets of Toronto are packed with runners, all hoping to raise money to send children with cancer to summer camp. The 17th Annual Sporting Life 10k kicks off Sunday around 8 a.m. Organizers have set a goal of $2.4 million, and the odds are looking good because more than 27,000 people are taking part in the event. Police looking for silver Honda CRV, following shooting at Yorkdale

Gunfire at Yorkdale mall has sent one man to hospital. Bullets flew through a window of Joey Restaurant around 12 a.m. on Saturday. The man who was shot suffered non-life threatening injuries and remains in stable condition. There is no word on suspects, but Toronto Police are looking for a silver, newer model Honda CRV seen fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting. This is the second time in less than two months a shooting has happened at the busy shopping centre … last time it left 23-year-old Michael Nguyen dead.
