Woman taken to hospital after fuel tanker crash

A woman has been taken to hospital, following a crash between a fuel tanker and car, Saturday. Toronto Police say it happened at Keele and Finch, around 8 a.m. There was no fuel leak from the tanker, officers confirm. The investigation continues.
Police looking for suspect after Whitby hit-and-run

Durham Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a hit-and-run suspect who hit a 13-year-old boy in Whitby on Thursday afternoon. Investigators say the incident happened at 12:30 p.m while the victim was crossing at Garden and Burns. Police are looking for a 40-55 year-old white male who drives a black Cadillac CTS with a possible partial license plate of BFF. Brampton firefighter dies in Caledon collision

A 50-year-old Brampton firefighter has died following a collision, yesterday. Officials say Howard Hughes of Orangeville crossed the centre line of Highway 10, in Caledon near Boston Mills Road, before hitting a truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Idle No More protests to close down International Bridge to US

Two large “Idle No More” protests have been planned, Saturday. Both have been planned near US border crossings – one in Cornwall, ON and the other in Surrey, BC. Officials will close the international bridge in the city to the US for part of the day, at least. The protests are part of an ongoing movement in support First Nations Chief Theresa Spence, who has been on a hunger strike since December 11 to highlight Aboriginal problems.
Two men injured in snowmobile accident near Sunderland

A 55 year-old man and 25 year-old man were seriously injured when their snowmobile failed to negotiate a turn and slammed into a tree in Brock Township on Saturday. Investigators say the two men were traveling along Sideroad 17, north of Concession 4, near Sunderland at around 3:00 a.m. when the incident occurred. They were able to get assistance and were taken to hospital. The 55 year-old sustained life threating injuries and is now in critical condition at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. The 25 year-old suffered a major head injury and is now in stable condition. Police believe alcohol and speed were factors.
Heavy snow hits the East Coast

Travelers are being advised to check the status of their flights if they’re planning on going to the East Coast, Sunday. Environment Canada says snow is coming down in parts of the western Maritimes. Northern Nova Scotia could expect as much as 40 cm while areas of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island could receive 30 cm. Air traffic has been shut down in Halifax and St. John’s.
More 200 collisions during Thursday’s snow storm, OPP say

Ontario Provincial Police say they’re giving motorists a failing grade in dealing with Thursday’s snow storm, as officers responded to more than 270 motor-vehicle incidents over a 24-hour period as the storm blew through the area. Durham Police Constable Gord Flemming says things were relatively calm on the roads in the region, with just 50 reported collisions. The storm is being blamed for at least one death, as a man in his 70’s collapsed while shoveling snow in Toronto’s west end. The city ended up with nearly 15 centimeters of snow downtown and 10 at Pearson Airport.
22-year-old in critical condition after DVP collision

A 22-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a collision on the DVP, Friday night. Police say a vehicle, heading southbound, spun out into the guardrail before being struck by another vehicle. The victim’s name has not been released. A portion of the highway was closed at Eglinton for about an hour.
Environment Canada calls for five more centimeters of snow

Another five centimeters of snow is expected to fall, Saturday morning. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of Southern Ontario, including the City of Toronto and for the Durham Region. The snow is expected to taper off by afternoon.
Motorists warned to be cautious after major snowfall in the GTA

It is finally looking like Christmas time in the GTA. A snowstorm that hit most of southern Ontario on Wednesday, is pounding its way into the eastern part of the province. Motorists who need to brave the roads are being advised to give themselves plenty of extra time to get to their destinations. The storm has also caused numerous flight cancellations at Pearson Airport. Those scheduled to fly out of Toronto, are advised to check their flight status before heading out. You can do so by clicking here. The CAA reminds those heading out on the roads, to keep a winter safety kit in their vehicle. The kit should include items such as gloves, hats, blankets, flares, food and drink. The storm is moving east and will hit southern Quebec and northern New Brunswick on Thursday.
Snow on the way; Environment Canada issues special weather statement

Travelers are being advised to check the status of their flights before heading out, Wednesday. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Greater Toronto Area. Anywhere from 5-15 centimeters of snow is expected to fall. Flurries will start early this evening and taper off by Thursday. More than 200 flights at the nation’s busiest airport have been cancelled due to the severe storm battering parts of the US
Pedestrian struck in Toronto’s east end

A man is in hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Toronto’s east end. Police say he was hit on Danforth Road, near Eglinton. The victim suffered serious injuries to his head, arms and legs. The driver remained on scene. The area remains closed as officers continue to investigate.
