Dump truck crashes on 407 killing one person

A crash on the 407 Saturday morning has killed one person. Police say a man was driving a dump truck, when lost control near Bathurst, just before 8 .am. The truck hit a concrete median, and spilled soil across the lanes. The westbound lanes are expected to remain closed for several hours, from from Bayview to Dufferin.
NDP leader denies he ran multiple stop signs

NDP leader Tom Mulcair denies he ran multiple stop signs yesterday on Parliament Hill and says there was never any angry exchange with police. Mulcair has apologized for what he termed a “misunderstanding” after breezing through a security checkpoint and failing to stop for an R.C.M.P. cruiser with it’s lights on. But Conservatives who have spent months being hammered over the Senate expense claims scandal jumped on the traffic miscue. Mulcair says the tories will do “anything to change the channel”.
Four options revealed for future of Gardiner Expressway

Four options for the future of the eastern section of the Gardiner Expressway have been revealed by the city of Toronto. Plans to remove, repair, maintain, or improve will now undergo an environmental assessment. Whatever the outcome is, work on the 2.4 kilometer elevated stretch of the aging highway will begin next spring. Residents can offer their input tonight at 6 p.m. at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
United Way Rat Race to cause Toronto road closures on Thursday

The United Way of Greater Toronto Scotiabank Rat Race will take place at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday June,14th and the following road closures will take place:
Formation Area − Adelaide Street, east of Bay Street
Westbound − Adelaide Street West
Northbound − University Avenue, northbound lanes
Northbound − Queen’s Park Crescent East
Turn around − south of Charles Street
Southbound − Queen’s Park Crescent East
Southbound − University Avenue northbound lanes
Eastbound − Adelaide Street West
Dispersal Area − Adelaide Street West, east of Bay Street
The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.
Robbery leads to police chase, carjacking, fire and manhunt in York Region

It was a busy Wednesday morning for York police after a robbery led to a police chase, a carjacking and a fire. Officers were responding to a robbery at a convenience store in Richmond Hill when they encountered the suspect, who fled the scene on his motorcycle. While running from the cops the suspect collided with an SUV on Yonge Street he then took the vehicle and proceeded while dragging his damaged motorcycle underneath. The man stopped the car and fled in the Yonge and Bloomington area after the vehicle caught on fire. Officers launched a manhunt and with help from helicopters and the canine unit and they apprehended the suspect a short time later. The investigation is on-going.
Large scale airport coming to Pickering

The Government of Canada has ended decades of uncertainty over the Pickering Lands today by announcing the development of an airport. With the impending closure of Buttonville Airport, the 407 east expansion, and rapidly worsening congestion in the G.T.A, Pickering was determined to be an ideal site. The plan also calls for the creation of the 5-thousand acre Rouge National Urban Park. The federally owned Pickering Lands encompass over 18-thousand acres in Pickering, Markham, and Uxbridge with the airport, set to open by 2027, slated for the southeast area.
Deadly night on G.T.A roads

It was a deadly night on rain soaked Toronto area roads on Monday as two people were killed by vehicles across the G.T.A. A woman walking her dog was struck and killed in the Bathurst and 407 area of Vaughan shortly before 8:30 p.m.. She is believed to be in her twenties. York Regional Police say the elderly driver and passenger of the vehicle were both taken to hospital after the car crashed into a tree following the collision. A male cyclist in Milton was also killed by a vehicle around 10 p.m.. Police are still considering charging the driver in that incident.
Charges laid in Oshawa police chase that injured three

Three youth have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, among others after three pedestrians were struck Sunday morning. According to Durham Police, around2:45 a.m. Police were attempting to pull a vehicle over in the area of King Street and Stevenson Road but it did not stop and a chase ensued. A short time later three pedestrians were hit and all sustained injuries. A 32 year old woman broke her hand and had internal injuries; a 27 year old man had head and soft tissues injuries, while a 39 year old man was airlifted to a Toronto hospital in critical condition. Two 13 year old boys and a 15 year old boy, all from Whitby have been charged.
Volunteer killed at Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal ended on a sad note. A Crane that was moving a disabled race car off the track struck and killed a track worker just after the race ended. The worker was escourting the crane when he tripped and fell under it’s wheels. The victims identity has’nt been realeased, but officals say he was a race volunteer and a member of a local auto club.
‘Time To Talk’ car insurance education event comes to Pickering Town Centre

Car insurance can be a real gear grinder for drivers and now they’ll be able to have their say at the Pickering Town Centre. An event called ‘Time to Talk’ is underway. Spokesperson for the insurance bureau of canada, steve kee is inviting consumers to give their opinion, and while they do, they can learn about how the system works. There will be various exhibitions and activities and staff will also be on hand to answer any questions. The event will run through Sunday
Driver airlifted to hospital after two vehicle collision in Uxbridge

A driver was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with series but non-life-threatening injuries after two vehicles collided at Regional Road 21 and Brock Road in Uxbridge on Monday. At around 8:40 am police responded to a call where a GMC Safari going eastbound ran a red light and colliding with a Honda Civic going northbound. The Civic left the roadway and ending up hitting a light standard, both cars sustained severe damages. A 31 year-old Ajax man remains in hospital with multiple injuries but is suspected to make a full recovery. 50 year-old Glenn McBrien of Little Britain sustained minor injuries and has been charged with Failing to Obey Traffic Control.

Attention drivers. There will be daily lane restrictions on Bayly Street in Ajax for road improvements. The short-term closures will be from just east of MacKenzie Avenue to west of Kitney Drive. Work will be completed by June 17th, weather permitting. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for pedestrian safety and for construction worker safety.
