York Police bust $80,000 clothing theft ring

Officers with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigation Bureau have charged seven suspects and seized more than $80,000 thousand worth stolen clothing in relation to a shoplifting investigation. On Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at approximately 4 p.m., police were called to a theft in progress at a shoe store in the area of Yonge Street and Dawson Manor Drive in the Town of Newmarket. Officers located the suspects in a vehicle in the area of Jane Street and Highway 9 West after fleeing from the store. Police continued the investigation of this theft ring and executed search warrants at residences in the Town of Innisfil and the City of Toronto. As a result of the search warrants over $80,000 of stolen clothing was seized. The seven charged are all from Toronto and face Theft, Fail to Comply and Possession of Stolen Property charges
Durham Police look for man seen dumping wire sheathing

Police are trying to identify a man who disposed of three garbage bags full of wire sheathing—minus the wire—in Bowmanville on Tuesday. At approximately 1:30 p.m., a man driving a Jeep Cherokee parked in a municipal parking lot in the Stevens Road and Clarington Boulevard area of Bownmanville and pried open the locked cover of a dumpster and shoved three garbage bags into it. The man fled when he noticed someone had witnessed him in the act. Several other garbage bags were seen in his vehicle. Investigators found the bags contained sheathing associated with heavy-gauge wire. The new wire removed from the sheathing is valued at approximately $3,000. Investigators would like to identify the man to discover why he was dumping the sheathing. The male is described as: white, 35-40 years old, 5’ 11” tall with a thin build and tattoos on his forearm. Oshawa man flees Durham Police on homemade motorcycle

A 43 year old Oshawa man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing from police on a homemade motorcycle. According to authorities, around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, an officer spotted the man driving a small, extremely loud, homemade chopper style motorcycle on the sidewalk in the Simcoe and Erie Street area. The officer attempted to pull the man over, however he fled along a bike path. A short time later, the suspect was found at a home on Malaga Road. Vincent Lynch has been charged.
Suspect in connection with Bownmanville theft turns herself in

A woman suspect of stealing an elderly lady’s wallet at a bowmanville grocery store has turned herself in. On April14 the lady was shopping and discovered her wallet missing from her purse when she arrived to the check-out. The victim had been shopping with her grandchild and may have temporarily left her purse unattended. On Monday the suspect went to police returned the wallet and turned herself in. 46 year old Lorelei Abel is charged with theft under $5,000.
Whitby Mental hospital says residents shouldn’t be concerned about Kachkar’s community privileges

The Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences wants Whitby residents to know they are extremely careful when escorting patents into the community. 46 year old Richard Kachkar, who was found not criminally responsible for killing a Toronto police officer with a snowplow, will reside at the facility with possible visits into the town. Medical Director Dr. Karen De Freitas says residents have no need to worry because patients have to earn privileges such as escorted visits and they can be revoked or restricted at any time. Kachkar will remain at the facility for undetermined period of time until an annual review board believes he no longer poses a threat to society.
Toronto Police seek public assistance in armed robbery case

Toronto Police are asking for the public’s help in a robbery investigation that involved an employee of an armoured car company being beaten and pistol-whipped by two men. Staff Insp. Mike Earl says the INKAS Security Services Company in the city’s northwest end was robbed by two men in the early-morning hours of April 14. He says the men entered the premises armed with a silver-coloured handgun, and made demands for cash. A 36-year-old male employee at the facility was bound and struck with the handgun, leaving him with facial injuries that required hospital treatment. The suspects then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a dark or charcoal grey two-door coupe driven by a third suspect.
Three men arrested following drug trafficking investigation in Oakville

A three-week investigation into drug trafficking in Oakville has led to three arrests. Halton Police say three men were spotted engaging in a drug transaction in the parking lot of an Oakville apartment building. Following the arrest of the men, a storage unit in Burlington was searched. Investigators found a handgun, ammunition, as well as cocaine, marijuana, heroin and other drugs.
One person dead, another in custody following stabbing in Scarborough

One person is dead and another is in custody following a stabbing in Scarborough. Officers were called to the Kingston and Birchmount area just after 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, where they found a man dead. The victim is believed to have been around the age of 60. The name of the suspect hasn’t been released. Police haven’t given out any other information at this point.
Durham Police offer tips on spotting a grow op in your neighbourhood

After two big Grow Op busts in Durham recently, police are asking you to report anything suspicious you see in your neighbourhood. Spokesperson Dave Selby says there are a few things you can keep an eye out for such as no snow on the roof of the house during the winter. Selby says if you suspect a house in your neighbourhood of growing marijuana, contact police or Crime Stoppers and never approach them yourself.
Horrific discovery in Pickering park has Durham police investigating a possible case of animal cruelty

The investigation is underway for Durham police after a horrific discovery in a Pickering park. Officials say on Sunday, officers were called to Summer Park, in the Finch and Altona area, after a resident found a decomposing dog’s head. During an initial investigation, it’s believed the head was cut off by a sharp tool. Authorities remind everyone that animal cruelty is a serious crime and will be fully looked into. Robbery and assault at Oshawa laundromat leads to a pair of arrests

A robbery at an Oshawa laudromat in Oshawa has led to charges against a pair of men. Durham police say on Friday evening, a 41 year-old woman was robbed and assaulted by two men in the facility on Nassau Street in an incident believed to be connected to illegal drugs. The victim was punched and kicked by two people, breaking her jaw. 46 year-old Jason Duncan of Oshawa and 31 year-old James Jackson of no fixed address, have been arrested.
Tip leads to $879,000 marijuana bust in Whitby

A tip to Durham Police about suspicious people at a Whitby home on Saturday ended with the seizure of close to $900,000 worth of marijuana. Investigators say officers responding to the call determined the Garrard Road and Dryden Boulevard home to be a grow operation and after securing the property and obtaining a warrant, a search revealed 897 marijuana plants along with sophisticated growing equipment. The investigation continues and so far no arrests have been made.
