Charges laid after deadly stage collapse in Toronto last summer

A total of 13 charges have been laid in connection with a deadly stage collapse a year ago at Downsview Park in Toronto. The charges name Live Nation Inc., Live Nation Ontario Concerts GP Inc., Optex Staging and Services Inc., and an engineer. Part of the massive outdoor structure came crashing down last June during setup for a Radiohead concert, killing a British drum technician and injuring three other workers. The falling debris crushed Scott Johnson, a drum technician in his 30′s, whom the band called “a highly skilled and valued member” of its road crew.

Two Toronto men charged following robbery, shooting over four years ago

After more than four years, two men are finally being charged with a robbery and shooting in Toronto. Officers say, the pair entered the “swap shop”, at Lawrence and Victoria park back in February 2009, armed with a handgun and baseball bat. It’s believed a struggle ensued, and an employee was shot, leaving him with serious injuries. 22-year-old Bevon Marshall and a 21-year-old, both from Toronto, are facing a total of 23 charges.

Major drug bust leads to four arrests, including two men from Mississauga

Two men from Mississauga are among those being charged in a major drug investigation. Toronto police say on May 6th, three men were arrested in the Bay Street and Lake Shore Boulevard area after officers found a large quantity of cocaine from two vehicles. Further searches in the GTA led to the discovery of more drugs and the arrest of a fourth man. In total, over 6.5 million in drugs was seized. Charged are 40 year-old Ritesh Thakur and 29 year-old Gursharan Singh, both of Mississauga, 33 year-old Philipos Kollaros of Vancouver and 36 year-old Dimitri Alexiou of Quebec.

Criminal charges laid in connection with chocolate price fixing scheme

The competition bureau has laid criminal charges in an alleged scheme to fix the price of chocolate. Charged are Nestle Canada, Mars Canada, and a network of independent wholesale distributors. Nestle and Mars vow to defend themselves. The bureau has reached a settlement with Hershey Canada, which has agreed to plead guilty to one count of price-fixing.

Durham police arrest three men after Whitby drug bust

Durham police have arrested three men in connection to a drug trafficking investigation in Whitby.  According to authorities, officers searched a residence on Bluebell Crescent on Wednesday.  Cocaine, marijuana, pills and mushrooms were seized with a combined street value of over $7,700 as well as cash. 33 year-old Chris persaud, of Whitby, 32 year-old Shawn Kanhai of Oshawa and 34 year-old Omar Walker of Markham are facing numerous charges.

Toronto Police search for missing teens

Toronto Police are looking to the public for help locating two missing girls.  16 year old Fardosa Aden-Hussein and of Toronto, were last seen just after 5 p.m. Monday in the Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East area.  Aden-Hussein is described as black, 5’6 with long dyed black/red hair.  Meanwhile, almost an hour earlier, 15 year old Anastasia Larose was last seen in the same area.  She is described as black, approximately 5’2 with shoulder-length, curly brown hair.  Police are concerned for their safety.  Anyone with information is asked to call Police at 416-808-4100, or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

Durham Police canvass area transit, and UOIT goes on lockdown for possible armed person

A scare for some students of UOIT in north Oshawa Thursday morning, as school security conducted a lock down around 11:45 for reports that someone may have been on a bus armed with a weapon in the area.  Durham Police say they can’t confirm the person exists, but they are being proactive and canvassing all modes of transportation in Oshawa including, GO buses and Durham Region Transit.  The investigation continues, and the lock down at the school has ended.

York Police charge Richmond Hill woman in connection with $550,000 fraud scheme

A 35 year old Richmond Hill woman is facing fraud charges for her role in an investment scheme that targeted at the Tanzanian community. York Regional Police had received numerous complaints regarding multiple investment frauds. From December 2010 through to September 2011 the accused approached victims within the Tanzanian community and requested money for either real estate or a tsunami relief fund. They were promised the money would be returned within four weeks. The victims were also promised a profitable return on their short-term investment ranging from 20 per cent to 40 per cent. When the investments were to be paid back to the victims, the accused made excuses and no money was returned to any of the victims. Fatema Alloo was arrested on May 7th. The value of the fraud is estimated to be around $550,000.

38 year-old man charged with stealing bike from little girl in Toronto

A 38 year-old man has been charged after allegedly stealing a bike from a young girl. Toronto police say the preschooler was shoved off her bike and had it taken from her while riding in a parking lot on Wednesday. According to witnesses, the accused also took her jacket and one of her shoes before fleeing the scene. Tony Le has been charged with robbery. Police are still trying to locate the child and her caregiver because they didn’t file a report on the incident.

Ontario’s SIU charges Toronto police officer with assault causing bodily harm

Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit has charged a Toronto police officer with assault causing bodily harm. Investigators say the charge stems from an arrest in April of 2010 on King Street East. Officials say the 30 year-old male suspect was struck a number of times and needed to be taken to hospital with head injuries. Constable Christian Dobbs will appear in court on July 17th.

Serious threat made against the family of Doug Ford has police investigating

Toronto police are looking into a threat that has been made against a member of the Ford family. Mayor Rob Ford confirmed an investigation is ongoing, but couldn’t make any specific comments related to the situation. According to reports, the threat was made against the daughter of Councillor Doug Ford. Police Chief Bill Blair called the email threatening and concerning and officers are taking it very seriously.

Two men arrested and charged with break-and-enters

Toronto police have arrested and charged two men with break-and-enters on homes in the midtown area. The two men have allegedly commited 12 break-and-enters when the residents of their home were asleep. The accused are 22 year old Keron Kenton of Toronto and 22 year old Alex Ted James of Toronto. Police are reminding the public to be extra cautious when there are suspicious people or vehicles on or around their street. They also said to secure your homes, arm alarm systems even when at home and keep outside lights on.
