Woman charged after throwing drink at Toronto Mayor Rob Ford

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was greeted with a drink to the face, when he showed up at Taste of Little Italy. A woman, among the hundreds on the street during the festival, tossed a cup of juice at Ford on Saturday afternoon. 27-year-old Shannon Everett has been charged with assault, and will be making her way to court at the end of July.
Tim Bosma’s widow speaks to Hamilton TV station, says she’s still trying to cope with his death

The widow of Tim Bosma is still trying to come to terms with her husband’s death. Sharlene Bosma says she doesn’t understand why he was killed, and told Hamilton TV station CHCH, there’s no reason her husband to die. Meanwhile, Dellen Millard and Mark Smich, both in orange prison jumpsuits, said little during their separate video appearances in a Hamilton court on Thursday. Their lawyers say they hope to receive disclosure from the Crown by Aug. 1. Millard and Smich both plan to plead not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Bosma, who disappeared May 6 after taking two men on a test drive of a pickup truck he was trying to sell online.
Oshawa man charged after shooting lasers at a helicopter

Durham Police have laid charges against an Oshawa man after laser beams zapped a chopper. The beams hit the chopper Friday morning, while officers were doing a routine check of the neighbourhood. When ground officers were told about it, they headed over to the Bloor and Harmony area, where they caught 44-year-old Richard McIntosh outside a parked car. His laser device was seized and he was arrested on the spot.
Peel Police investigating after two separate deadly crashes

Peel Police continue to investigate two separate crashes in the GTA, which has left three people dead. The first collision happened in Brampton near Highway 50 and Fogal Road. The 2-car crash left one man dead and sent two children to hospital. One of the children died in a nearby hospital, while the other was taken to Sickkids in Toronto and reportedly suffering from life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, a teenage girl has died after being struck by a car in Mississauga. The 13-year-old was hit after a car ran through a fence, near Dixie and Bloor. She died in hospital. Police say the driver was also taken to the hospital, and is being treated for shock.
Parking Enforcement Officer assaulted

A 35 year old man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a parking enforcement officer. According to Toronto Police around 9 a.m. Friday, the officer was patrolling in the Shaw and College Street area. He had just issued a parking ticket when the owner of the car approached him and assaulted him. Dusan Prekic of Toronto has been charged.

Toronto Police say a violent gang that was terrorizing a Dixon neighbourhood has been dismantled following a series of raids around the GTA. One of the raids targeted an apartment complex where an alleged video appearing to show Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine was reported to be located. Police haven’t said if ford was in any way part of their year-long investigation but they have arrested someone charged in the murder of a Toronto man pictured in a photo with the mayor. The police investigation, named project traveller, centred on the alleged activities of a Toronto gang known as the Dixon city bloods or the Dixon goonies.
Whitby man facing child luring charges

A four month long undercover child luring investigation by Durham police has led to charges against a Whitby man. Police used social media and posed as a 14 year old and arranged to meet the suspect at a bus stop in Whitby. 50 year old Kyle McLauchlan was arrested without incident yesterday morning. Police are reminding parents to talk to their kids about being safe online.
63 year old man sent to hospital after a violent incident in Oshawa

An Oshawa man is facing assault charges following a violent incident that sent one man to hospital. Durham police say early Thursday morning they were called to a rooming house on Celina Street where they found a 63 year old man suffering serious but non-life threating injuries. A short time later, 51 year old Larry Little turned himself in to police. Officer say there was a verbal altercation between the two men that become physically violent. Little is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The New Democrats are requesting an emergency commons debate on how security and law enforcement collect personal information from Canadians. Declassified documents indicate Defence Minister Peter Mackay has issued new instructions to Canada’s electronic eavesdropping agency. The instructions to the Communications Security Establishment detail how and when it can help Canada’s spy agency C.S.I.S and the R.C.M.P. investigate Canadians.
RCMP launches formal investigation into the $90,000 cheque given to Senator Mike Duffy

The RCMP has launched a formal investigation into the involvement of Nigel Wright, Prime Minister Harper’s former chief of staff. Wright resigned as Harper’s chief of staff last month after admitting he gave $90,000 to Senator Mike Duffy to enable him to reimburse the senate for improperly claimed living expenses. Harper has insisted wright did not tell him about the “gift” until after news of it leaked out. The PMO, meanwhile, says it will provide any possible assistance in the wright investigation if asked to do so by the Mounties.

A series of early-morning Thursday raids in the GTA and across the province has led to the arrest of dozens of suspected drug and gun traffickers and the seizure of large amounts of drugs, weapons and cash. Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair says 39 search warrants were executed in the so-called Project Traveller, which began in June, 2012, following numerous violent crimes, including murder and attempted murder. The raids began shortly after 5:00m a.m., and involved police from multiple jurisdictions including Durham, the RCMP and Ontario Provincial 19 people were arrested this morning in Toronto and nine in Windsor, adding that to date 43 people have been arrested in the investigation. Targets around the Greater Toronto Area included an apartment building where an alleged video that appeared to show Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine was reported to be located. Whitby grocery store closed after suspicious package was found

Durham Police called to a Whitby grocery store after an envelope was sent to an employee with a suspicious white powder inside. Officers closed the Metro on Thickson Road South around the lunch hour on Wednesday after the envelope was opened. Test results have confirmed the substance did not pose a health risk to anyone. No arrests have been made.
