Durham police make arrests after seizing $19,000 in cocaine from homes in Whitby and Toronto

Two men, one from Whitby and one from Toronto, have been charged after $19,000 worth of cocaine was seized by Durham police. Investigators made the discovery while searching a pair of homes on Tuesday, including one on Houghton Court in Whitby. 45 year-old Paul Isaacs of Whitby and 47 year-old Ronald Tyrrel of Toronto were arrested and each face several charges.

Two suspects remain on the loose following a robbery in Oshawa. Durham police say on Monday afternoon, the men made off with a quantity of merchandise from the Ritson Pharmacy. One the suspects claimed to have been armed with a handgun during the heist but no weapon was actually seen. One suspect is described as white, between the ages of 35 and 40, about 5’10 and had a light-coloured moustache. The other suspect was also white, between 25 and 35, standing 5’4 to 5’8 and had a medium to heavy build. Toronto man offically charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of Tim Bosma

A Toronto man was charged with first degree murder in a Hamilton court Wednesday in connection with the death of Tim Bosma. The 32 year old disappeared last week after taking two men for a test drive of his 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck that he had been trying to sell online. 27 year old Dellen Millard, looked tired and unshaven as he appeared in a Hamilton courtroom this morning and was charged in the death of Tim Bosma, 32. He was ordered detained until a bail hearing can be arranged, and will appear again by video remand on June 13. Millard was wearing a rumpled white shirt and grey slacks and appeared to have dark circles under his eyes. He stood tall and straight while stating his name. On Tuesday, police said that the badly burned remains of Bosma had been found in the Waterloo Region. On Friday, 27-year-old Dellen Millard was arrested and charged with forcible confinement and theft. Police say they are still looking for the second man who test drove the truck and at least one more suspect who followed behind.
Gas prices expected to jump 2.3 cents a litre in the GTA overnight

In a move that will come as no surprise to many motorists, the price at the pump is going up in advance of the long-weekend. According to TomorrowsGasPriceToday.com, prices will be going up by 2.3 cents a litre overnight. Gas guru Dan McTeague, the increase is no coincidence and is a simple case of profit taking. McTeague also warns residents to brace for even higher prices over the coming days. The average price of gas in the GTA will increase to 127.6 cents a litre, but also says lower prices can still be found in parts of Durham Region.
Premier Kathleen Wynne and NDP leader Andrea Horwath set to meet to discuss the budget

There will be a meeting of the minds at Queen’s Park on Wednesday, as Premier Kathleen Wynne and NDP leader Andrea Horwath discuss the budget. The meeting could determine whether or not Ontarians will head to the polls anytime soon, as the minority Liberals need NDP backing to push through the budget. Horwath called for more changes to the document on Tuesday, wanting a delay in government plans to toll the use of high-occupancy lanes until a corporate tax loophole is closed. She’s also asking for a financial accountability office and wants Ontario’s ombudsman to have oversight of the health-care sector.
Woman suffers life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Toronto

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Toronto. Police say around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, a woman had to be rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck in the Yonge and Glengrove area. The cause of the collision is still being determined and there’s no word yet on potential charges against the driver.
The Town of Ajax wants the province to force Durham Council to review its representation across the region

The Town of Ajax is taking its fight for equal representation on Durham council to the province. Ajax council unanimously approved a report this week that alters the number of seats each municipality gets. Mayor Steve Parish says Durham hasn’t reviewed its representation across the region since 1996 even with a significantly growing and changing population. He says they have tried several times to raise the issue at council only to be shot down. Parish says 36 per cent of the population is getting a 50 per cent say on council. The report suggests reducing the size of Durham council from 28 people to 17.
15 year old facing arson charges in connection with playground fire in Uxbridge

A 15 year old is facing charges in connection with a fire at an Uxbridge playground. Durham police say last Friday, fire crews were called to Testa Park after the playground equipment was set ablaze. The fire was quickly extinguished but the playground was extensively damaged. A 15 year old from Uxbridge has been charged with arson while police issued a caution to a 14 year old who is said to be involved.
Female pedestrian hit and killed by train in Toronto

The investigation is continuing for Toronto police after a female pedestrian was hit and killed by a train. Officials say the victim was struck in the Yonge and Summerhill area around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night. The cause of the incident is still being determined and witnesses are being sought. There is still no word on the name or age of the victim.
Durham police charge 19 year-old Oshawa man in robbery investigation

A 19-year-old Oshawa man is facing several charges including robbery and carrying a concealed weapon. Durham police is applauding the work of its K9 Unit following the arrest of the suspect. The team was called to Wentworth Street at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after the man displayed a knife and robbed a couple before fleeing. They were able to track the suspects scent to a house on Oxford Street where Kyle Watson was arrested. The victims were not harmed during the incident.
65 year-old Peterborough man charged in child porn investigation

A 65 year-old Peterborough man has been charged with child porn offences. Police in Peterborough and Toronto teamed up for the investigation and allege James Alex Brunton made covert videos inside locker rooms. Brunton faces over 60 charges including possessing, accessing and distributing child pornography, sexual exploitation, extortion and forcible confinement. According to police, the accused was in trusted positions with numerous minor hockey and lacrosse organizations including the Lakefield Chiefs, Junior C Lakers and the AAA minor Peterborough Petes.
Oshawa man dies in single vehicle accident

A 54 year old Oshawa man is dead after Durham Police say he had a medical episode behind the wheel of his pickup truck. Around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, witnesses called Police after the truck was seen leaving the roadway on Simcoe Street South, hitting a retaining wall and a hydro pole. The driver was apparently slumped over the wheel. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
