Police may soon be able to access internet users data easier

A little noticed bill that would expand police access to Internet users’ data is about to be thrust into the spotlight.  Government House Leader Peter Van Loan suggests Bill C-12 could come up for second reading debate as soon as today.  Bill C-12 would make it easier for Internet service providers, e-mail hosts and social media sites to voluntarily share personal information about customers with authorities.  Under the legislation, those Internet companies could be prevented from telling customers that their personal details have been shared.
