Colleges Ontario isn’t giving up on the idea that colleges should be allowed to offer three-year degrees to better serve the work force. A report was before the province when the legislature was halted with the announcement Dalton McGuinty was stepping down as premier. Vice-President of Research and Policy for Colleges Ontario, Bill Summers, says there are subtle differences between degree and diploma programs. Degrees often require a strong research component, which gives students more industry exposure. Summers says the change is a critical part of creating the best-educated, best-prepared students in the world.
