A powerful 7.7 earthquake rocked the north-central coast of British Columbia on Saturday night. Thankfully, damage looks to be minimal. The quake was centred near Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands. Residents impacted report a 90-minute power failure, things falling off shelves and a small tsunami. There are no reports of any injuries. Elsewhere, Hawaii’s governor says a tsunami warning that spurred coastal evacuations statewide is being downgraded to a tsunami advisory, ending the threat of serious damage.
