Head of the International Monetary Fund praises Canada for its policies on household debt

Canada is getting high praise from the head of the International Monetary Fund. Speaking in Toronto, Christine Lagarde says Canada is a world leader when it comes to creating policies to control household debt. Lagarde points to Finance Minister and Whitby Oshawa MP Jim Flaherty’s changes to Canadian mortgage rules as a prime example. The tightening of rules was an effort to help Canadians from drowning in mortgage debt.
