Lakeridge Health Oshawa cuts ribbon on new CT Scanner

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, Healthcare

Health care in Durham Region has just been given a significant boost. Lakeridge Health Oshawa has officially cut the ribbon for their new CT scanner, which will provide patients with faster access to testing. President and CEO Kevin Empey says the machine is capable of checking for conditions ranging from strokes and kidney stones, to cancer and broken bones. Empey says this is the third CT scanner at Lakeridge Health, joining an existing one in Oshawa and another in Bowmanville. The total cost of the project was $2.3 million, over half of which was donated by Harry and Elizabeth Mellow. The new suite, which also includes a control room, waiting area, change rooms and image processing lab, has been named in their honour. Approximately 27,000 people receive a CT scan at Lakeridge Health every year.
