Following last week’s 27 hour police standoff in Whitby, there were several complaints about police transparency. Some residents, especially those living and working near the locked down area on Hopkins Street, wondered why they weren’t informed sooner about what was going on. Sergeant Nancy Van Rooy says police have to follow certain policies. Van Rooy says even now there is information they must keep quiet, until the case is through the courts. Robert Lutczyk is facing a number of charges following the standoff and an alleged kidnapping. A bail hearing scheduled for Monday, has been put off.
