Opposition members fuming over decision to prorogue the legislature

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, GTA, Politics, Toronto

Following Monday’s surprise announcement that Premier Dalton McGuinty would be stepping down, many are wondering what will happen now at Queen’s Park. Pickering Scarborough East MPP Tracy MacCharles says the Liberals are hopeful to use this time of pause to resolve some issues. She’s hopeful this time of proroguing will be used to resolve issues, like the public sector wage freeze, with the help of opposition members. Meanwhile, the opposition parties are outraged over the proroguing of the legislature, saying that important committees and bills are wiped out. A new leader isn’t expected to be named until the New Year. Until then, MacCharles says MPPs will have more time to work out of their constituency offices.
