Government will soon require serial numbers on long guns

After killing off the national gun registry, the Conservative government now says putting serial numbers on long guns contributes to public safety. The Public Safety Department says effective December 1st, rules on gun markings will come into effect, but there will be no penalties for not putting the numbers on the guns. The new rules also eliminate requirements for specific Canadian markings, which was in the original legislation.
