Emergency service workers offer Halloween safety tips

As Halloween approaches and decorations begin to appear, emergency service workers are reminding people to keep safety top of mind.  Public Education Officer with Whitby Fire, Shawna Coulter, says battery operated lights are preferable to candles – even for your outdoor decorations. Coulter says you should also never cover light bulbs with paper, cloth or combustible materials. Another recommendation as it relates to costumes, Coulter suggests kids wear bright, reflective materials so they can be easily seen by drivers.
