Toronto council moving forward with plastic bag ban

It looks like Toronto’s plastic bag ban will be going into effect, despite the possibility of legal action. On Wednesday, council voted not to re-open the issue. The vote upholds a motion passed in June that saw council vote to scrap a five cent bag levy for the remainder of this year, before implementing the ban on January 1st. The Ontario Convenience Stores Association says the ban violates the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and has already announced plans to pursue legal action.
