TTC approves fare increase and contracting out services

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, GTA, Toronto

About 160 cleaning jobs at two TTC bus garages could be outsourced in an attempt to save money. The commission approved the move at a board meeting Thursday, and says the change will save the system about $1 million next year. Members also voted in favour of a five cent fare hike in an effort to close the $28 million gap in its 2013 operating budget. The increase would not affect cash fares, but the cost of tokens will go up and monthly metropass prices would increase by about $30 a year. Both initiatives need city council approval.
