Ontario secondary school teachers vote in favour of a strike mandate

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, Education, GTA, Politics, Toronto

Despite the passage of Bill 1-15 at Queen’s Park, teachers from around the province are still voting in favour of strike mandates. Vice President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, Harvey Bischof, says there’s still some confusion over what the legislation actually means for workers. Bischof says contrary to belief, the bill doesn’t ban job action from the outset, but does give the government the opportunity to intervene before it takes place. Bischof says the strike votes are not about wanting job action, but about exercising their rights to collective bargaining.
