Opposition stepping up to a proposed ban on plastic bags in Toronto

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Politics, Toronto

The Canadian Plastics Industry Association is fighting against a proposed bag ban in the city of Toronto.  Consultant Joe Hruska says if Toronto bans plastic bags, up to 11,000 jobs could be lost in the manufacturing industry in the city. He says plastic bags create less waste than re-usable bags. Hruska says more than 100,000 tonnes of organics are diverted from landfill using plastic shopping bags.  Toronto city council will consider the ban at a meeting next week.
