The federal ethics watchdog has announced that it will not investigate Finance Minister Jim Flaherty over allegations of Conservative ties at the Oshawa Port Authority and the company building an ethanol plant at the waterfront. Both Oshawa City Council and MP Olivia Chow had asked for the investigation, to determine whether or not the Conservatives stacked the Port Authority’s board with political allies. Oshawa Mayor John Henry says he’s really disappointed with the lack of transparency, surrounding the ethanol issue. The Port Authority recently approved the construction of a $200 million ethanol refinery at the Oshawa Harbour, despite opposition from city council and residents.
