Durham Police have released the numbers from their “In the Zone”, back to school traffic safety campaign. Officials say during the first week of school, they focused on school and community zones throughout the region and issued over 1,500 tickets for various offences including 32 for distracted driving.  Police say distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of accidents in Ontario, and the fine for being caught using a handheld device while behind the wheel, is $150.00.
