Contract talks continue for the CAW and Big 3 automakers

It looks like it’s going to be a long weekend for the CAW and the Big 3 automakers, as contract talks are now going around the clock. GM, Ford and Chrysler are looking for lower labour and pension costs in line with an agreement with the UAW, south of the border. Local 222 President Chris Buckley says so far, they haven’t been very successful in getting more of a Canadian product commitment from General Motors. The current contract expires at 11:59 Monday night, and the CAW says it may target more than one of the automakers if negotiations fall through. That would mean more than 25,000 auto workers on the picket lines, not including parts suppliers.
