Tips to minimize back to school stress

  The first week of school is in the books, and that means students and parents getting back into routine…however, some kids may have difficulty in various ways within the learning environment.  Chief social worker with the Durham District School Board, Georgia Jenkins says there are ways to make the transition a little easier for all involved, including working out and establishing routines, watching for signs of stress or anxiety, listening to their concerns while being optimistic and supportive and giving them a place to study and do homework. Jenkins also says encouraging little ones to participate in packing their own lunches and laying out their clothes the night before, are important parts of simplifying the morning routine.
