CLOCA reminds the public not to release end-of-summer pond pets into local ecosystem

As we enter the cooler season, the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is asking people to not empty their pond plants and pets into the local eco-system. CLOCA says dumping the items from your garden pond into a local creek or river may seem like a logical idea, but many of the plants and fish aren’t native to Ontario, and Natural Heritage Resource analyst, Diana Shermet, says there are negative effects.  For organizations that can help families find new homes for their pond pets, click here.
