After less than 24 hours, public hearing on anti-strike legislation for Ontario teachers is over. The Liberal bill will impose a two-year wage freeze on veteran teachers, while younger ones will still be able to move up the salary grid. It also mandates three unpaid vacation days in the second year of the contract. The all-party committee, made up of unions, trustees and principals’ associations had only a few hours to consider the bill, which is being rammed through the legislature, with the help of the Progressive Conservatives.
