A total of 29 arrests and over 260 charges have been laid by Durham Police as part of ‘Project Mansfield’. Officials say the investigation began last November, and focused on distraction-style thefts occurring across the region. Chief Mike Ewles says the operation had an international scope, involving individuals being recruited to Canada to become part of the ring. Durham officers partnered with forces from all over Ontario and Quebec, including in Toronto, York and Peel Regions, as well as the RCMP.
