Study shows Ontario is falling behind, when is comes to poverty

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Healthcare, Politics

Several Durham agencies have banded together to promote a new report, blasting Ontario’s poverty record.  The release by the Ontario Common Front says the province is falling behind the rest of Canada when it comes to income inequality, out-of-pocket costs for social programs and wait lists for community services.  Executive Director of Simcoe Hall Settlement House in Oshawa, Mark Shuwera says more needs to be done to help those who are struggling.  He says the number of visits to the food bank have been climbing steadily, from about 9,000 visits in 2008, to well over 14,000 last year.  For more information, click here.
