Murder charge against Beaverton man upgraded to first-degree

A murder charge against a 32 year-old Beaverton man has been upgraded from second to first degree. Richard Shearer is accused in the death of 43 year-old Charlie Bath, who was allegedly killed at a farm property on the 5th Concession of Brock Township on August 19th. Durham Police believe the two men knew each other and were involved in an ongoing conflict. Shearer is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. The homicide is Durham Region’s fourth of the year.
