Durham Region left out of provincial funding promises

It seems Durham Region has once again been left out in the cold, when it comes to provincial economic development funding. Oshawa MPP Jerry Ouellette says the Liberals have passed Bill-11, permanently establishing economic development funding for Eastern and Southwestern Ontario. Ouellette says there are numerous economic development funds in place throughout the province with more than a hundred million dollars being doled out and most of the GTA including Durham Region, is excluded. Oshawa Mayor John Henry, who was one of those who presented at Queen’s Park, has said there should be one economic development fund for either the Golden Horseshoe or all of Southern Ontario. Meanwhile, Whitby-Oshawa MPP Christine Elliott says Durham Region has weathered the economic downturn rather well, but is operating at a competitive disadvantage.
