Ajax council supports deal to give Whitby a chunk of slot revenue from Ajax Downs

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, Politics

Councillors in Ajax have unanimously supported making the Town of Whitby an offer to cut them in on slot machine revenue from Ajax Downs. The deal would involve Whitby getting 15 per cent of the roughly $6 million in yearly revenue, in exchange for not being a willing host for an OLG site. Mayor Steve Parish says Ajax didn’t want to risk losing all of the economic benefits of the facility. Parish says Whitby has a clear choice, accept the terms of the deal, or reject it and pass a willing host resolution with OLG, which would take any revenue sharing off the table. Whitby would receive about $900,000 annually if the deal is agreed to.
