OPSEU president speaks out on recent public sector manager bonuses

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories

The president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union says Premier McGuinty’s promise to review bonuses paid to public sector managers is a step in the right direction.  But Smokey Thomas says it fails to address how the numbers of managers in the Ontario Public Service has ballooned out of control in recent years.  Thomas says it’s not unusual to have one manager supervising the work of as few as six staff members — or less.  He says there’s something wrong when front-line workers are losing jobs and getting wage freezes while their managers get bonus cheques.
