There won’t be an election called over teacher’s wages. Premier Dalton McGuinty says he won’t make legislation to impose a new teacher’s contract a confidence motion, meaning opposition parties can vote against it without fear of triggering an election. It’s expected that the legislature may be called back the week of August 26th if teachers haven’t reached a new contract agreement with the school boards. McGuinty warns old contracts can’t be allowed to roll over, giving teachers an automatic raise of about 5.5 percent.
