Questions raised about the purpose of the Ontario College of Trades

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, Politics

The opposition is raising more questions about the Ontario College of Trades. The new body was established by the Liberal government to oversee skilled trades workers, and come January 1st, workers will faces new fees amounting to upwards of $84-million a year for the province. Durham MPP John O’Toole says there’s already a shortage of trades workers, and he fears more costs and red tape will discourage people from entering the field. O’Toole says trades have existed for centuries without government oversight, making due with guilds and unions, and he’s questioning the colleges purpose.
