Cancer Society supports a province wide ban on tanning beds

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, GTA, Healthcare, Toronto

The Canadian Cancer Society warns that tanning beds can and do cause cancer. Oakville recently passed a bylaw barring anyone under 18 from using the beds, and the society is hoping to see that expanded into a province wide ban. Spokesperson Florentina Stancu-Soare says the activity is proven dangerous and those who start tanning before the age of 35 are 87 percent more likely to contract the deadliest form of skin cancer, melanoma. Stancu-Soare encourages anyone opposed to youths using tanning beds to contact their MPP. For more information click here.
