Durham Police say summer weather brings an increase in thefts from vehicles

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Crime, Durham, GTA

There’s been a rash of vehicle break-ins across Durham Region recently, particularly in the west end of Pickering.  Durham Police say it’s typical for the problem to increase in the summer months, and spokesperson Ashling Murphy encourages everyone to lock their vehicles, as the majority of incidents are crimes of opportunity, in which passersby, check vehicles to see if they’re open.  Murphy says thieves are looking for cash, i-pods, laptops and GPS units and she recommends bringing valuables with you when you get out of the car, or keep them out of sight.
