Two of Canada’s largest unions formally propose to join forces

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Business

The foundation has been set for what could turn out to be the largest industrial union in Canada’s history. The Canadian Auto Workers Union and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada have formally proposed to join forces. President of the CAW Ken Lewenza says this is a proud and historic moment for Canadian labour. Officials say a main reason for the merger, is so the two organizations can better protect existing members and attract others. The unnamed union would be created in 2013, and would represent more than 300,000 workers.
