Province asks for $100-million in exchange for park land

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, GTA, Toronto

The new Rouge National Urban Park will be comprised of land donated by the federal, provincial and municipal governments. However, Ontario has recently come forward, asking the feds to make good on about $100-million worth of promises in exchange for the land. Finance Minister and Whitby Oshawa MP Jim Flaherty says the federal government has no plans to hand a cheque to the province, and the taxpayers expect the province to turn the land over. Flaherty says he’s sure the issue will be worked out in time. He says it will take about 10 years to develop the land, with trails and the proper out-buildings.
