York’s sewer system undergoing major upgrades

York Region’s sewer system is getting a serious upgrade. Senior Project Manager Tom Hrkac says the end goal of the project is to twin the existing York-Durham Sewage System line between Ninth Line and Rouge Bank in Markham, to Finch and Valley Farm in Pickering. Hrkac says this will take a lot of stress off the system, which currently handles the majority of York Region’s sewage. Hrkac says work on the project is well underway with the borers already working on tunneling. The majority of the project is due to be completed by mid-2014 and so far, everything is on schedule and on budget.
