At least 12 people dead, more than 50 injured after shooting at Colorado movie theatre

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Crime

As Toronto continues to reflect on a rash of gun violence, a community in suburban Denver has also been rocked.  Police in Aurora, Colorado say 12 people are dead and 59 others were wounded after a gunman opened fire at a movie theatre.  Authorities say, the gunman started shooting at the front of a theatre during the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises”.  Police Chief Dan Oates says the gunman released gas from a canister before opening fire.  There’s a report the suspect is not talking to investigators.  A law enforcement official also told the Associated Press that police found jars of chemicals with wires nearby in 24-year-old James Holmes’ booby-trapped apartment.  People who know the 24 year old suspect describe him as a shy, intelligent person.  Holmes apparently never had any run-ins with the law.  He was in the process of withdrawing from a Ph.D. program in neuroscience at the University of Colorado-Denver.  The injured include a 4-month-old baby and a 6-year-old.
