Pickering Scarborough East MP the victim of online fraud

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Crime, Durham

Anyone can become the victim of online fraud. Just this week, an email was sent apparently from Pickering Scarborough East MP Corneliu Chisu, stating he was robbed while visiting London, and in need of a quick loan.  A rep from his office confirmed this was a scam, and that Mr. Chisu is well, and making every effort to regain control of his account. Durham Police Detective Constable Doris Carriere says if you receive a suspicious email to follow up with the sender, or the sender’s family by phone, to confirm whether or not they really are in need. Carriere says if you believe your email has been taken over by fraudsters, immediately contact your email provider and either cancel your account or change your password.
