Coroner’s office warns residents to be careful around pools and lakes

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, GTA, Toronto

A warning from the Office of the Chief Coroner, be extra careful when around pools or lakes. This after three children drowned over the weekend in Ontario, including a brother and sister. Deputy Chief Coroner, Dr. Bert Lauwers, says approximately 85 per cent of drowning deaths are adult males, and the big concern is, 67 per cent of them had been consuming alcohol when they went swimming. Dr. Lauwers says children drown quickly, and quietly, and parents need to keep them at arms-length, in visual contact, and with proper flotation devices.
