Lawyers have wrapped up their arguments to the Supreme Court of Canada in a rare case that could result in a federal byelection in Toronto. But it’s not clear how long it will take the justices to rule on an appeal by Tory MP Ted Opitz. He’s seeking to overturn a lower court ruling that quashed his victory last year in the riding of Etobicoke-Centre on grounds of errors by Elections Canada workers. Opitz’s Lawyer argued the voting rights of people in the riding were trampled due to simple record-keeping errors.
