Plastic bag tax gets the axe

The five-cent plastic bag fee that Toronto stores have been required to charge shoppers is no longer in effect. As of today, it’s up to retailers to decide whether shoppers will fork out a fee for the single-use bags. City council passed another motion last month that will see the bags banned from stores in January 2013.
