DDSB passes balanced budget, which includes new hires

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, Education

The Durham District School Board has passed a balanced budget. Highlights of the multi-million dollar document include the board more than doubling the number of full-day kindergarten classes from 66 to 159, and investments in the school maintenance program.  Chair of the Finance Committee Carolyn Morton says unlike other boards in Ontario that are laying people off, they’re actually hiring 15 more educational assistants, three social workers and speech and language pathologist.  The DDSB operates 134 facilities that accommodate more than 70,000 regular day students and thousands more who take advantage of a wide variety of continuing education and adult credit courses.
