Harper government passes back-to-work legislation to end Teamsters’ strike at CP Rail

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Business, GTA

Back-to-work legislation aimed to end the Teamsters’ week-long strike at CP Rail has passed the Commons. The Harper government used their majority to limit debate, leading to several late night votes that passed the bill early Wednesday morning. Labour Minister Lisa Raitt believes 4,800 striking workers will be back at work, and freight trains will be back on the rails on Thursday. Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair doesn’t agree with the intervention, saying there’s no incentive for parties to negotiate in good faith, knowing the government will always step in.
