Durham residents urged to practice safe biking

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham

Durham residents are urged to make sure their kids are wearing helmets when cycling, skateboarding or roller blading.  A 2012 Safe Kids Canada report says wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of brain injury by 88 percent.  Public Health Nurse with the Durham Health Department, Yemisi Aladesua, says while 4 out of 5 emergency cases they see can be eliminated by wearing helmets, older children are still resistant. The annual Durham Bicycle Fun and Safety Day will educate parents on proper helmet-fitting techniques.  The event runs Saturday from noon to 3:00 pm at Kids Safety Village of Durham, 1129 Athol Street, Whitby.
